RamyaLaya Dance Academy

Founded by Ramya Thinniyam, RamyaLaya Dance Academy is a school that trains girls, boys, and adults of all age groups in the Kalakshetra style of Bharathanatyam, and conducts classes in Bollywood and Folk dance. RamyaLaya Dance Academy’s mission is to strive for cultural enrichment, artistic excellence, and build creative individuality through regular dance classes, workshops, and presenting innovative productions. 

 

The institution’s journey began in 2003 in Mississauga, ON, Canada and now has branches in Mississauga and Naperville, IL, USA as well as online classes for students throughout North America.

 

Students of Bharathanatyam are trained from beginner to advanced level and perform their arangetram to commemorate the completion of the curriculum. Classes include theory and practical aspects of the art form.

At RamyaLaya Dance Academy, students are provided an opportunity to learn in an intimate environment, showcase their talents through different avenues, and participate in performances as well as workshops, academic and social events (online and in-person). As part of the syllabus, students are required to successfully complete tests with both practical and written components. Annually, the Academy hosts a Poster and Presentation Day event in which students choose themes in Bharathanatyam or connect real life topics to hastas and present it to an audience using lecture demonstrations, posters,  performances, and interactive games. Ramya's vision in designing this event was to develop vital skills for children such as communication, research skills, and creativity.

 

Beyond teaching dance, the Academy helps improve confidence, critical thinking, and perseverance, and educates students about Indian culture, music, and languages.
